Do you think that you have had enough influence in the world of art?
Things are better for women and artists of color than ever before, and part of that change is due to our work. However, there is still a long way to go. Most art schools and university art departments have at least 60% female students, but most contemporary art museums have less than 20% women artists in their collections. Then there is the art market, which has become the playground of billionaires – the 1% of the 1%. Their taste is determining what art museums collect, what is being preserved for the future. That’s a lousy way to preserve our culture. Do we want museums to only have the while male version of art, with a few tokens thrown in? The world of artists is great, but the artworld sucks.
Are you in favour of positive discrimination?
We don’t believe in quotas, but we do believe that any museum or gallery that is not including lots of women and artists of color needs to change their discriminating ways. There are so many great artists out there to choose from.
Do you have more influence today or in your early years?
If you have a great idea – a new way to construct political art using facts and humor – and you do lots of projects, your influence grows and grows. Our crazy kind of activism has become a model for hundreds of thousands of people all over the world who want to use their creativity to fight for issues they care about. We’ve done over 200 projects and actions – about the artworld, politics, film and pop culture.
You think that there is still much to go for equality in cinema and art or you think on the contrary that the situation of women have improved?
The film industry is way behind the times in regards to diversity. It has barely improved in the last decade. In 2013, only nine percent of films were directed by women.
Do you have any exposicion prepared for 2015?and, where?
Our retrospective, “Guerrilla Girls 1985-2015” is opening at Matedero Madrid on 30 January, 2015. We’ll be celebrating our 30th birthday in May, 2015 – we’re still working out the details, but street stickering, an exhibition, champagne and cake will be involved! We’ll be traveling to lots of places, including Vienna, California and hopefully India.

¿Crees que ha tenido suficiente influencia en el mundo del arte?
Las cosas son mejores para las mujeres y los artistas de color como nunca antes, y parte de ese cambio es debido a nuestro trabajo. Sin embargo, todavía hay un largo camino por recorrer.La Mayoría de las escuelas de arte y los departamentos de arte de la Universidad tienen por lo menos 60% de las alumnas, pero los museos de arte más contemporáneo tienen menos de 20% de mujeres artistas en sus colecciones. El mercado del arte, que se ha convertido en el patio de recreo de multimillonarios – el 1% del 1%. Su labor es determinar qué tienen que reclectarlos museos de arte, lo que será conservado para el futuro. Es una pésima forma de preservar nuestra cultura. ¿Queremos museos que sólo el tiempo versión masculina del arte?
El mundo de los artistas es genial, pero el mundo del arte es un asco.
¿Estás a favor de la discriminación positiva?
No creemos en las cuotas, pero creemos que cualquier museo o galería que no está incluyendo muchas mujeres y artistas de color necesita cambiar sus formas discriminatorias. Hay muchos grandes artistas para escoger.
¿Teneis más influencia hoy o en vuestros primeros años?
Si tienes una gran idea , una nueva manera de construir arte político utilizando hechos y humor y puedes hacer un montón de proyectos, tu influencia crece y crece. Nuestro tipo loco de activismo se ha convertido en un modelo para cientos de miles de personas en todo el mundo que quieren utilizar su creatividad para luchar por temas que les importan. Hemos hecho más de 200 proyectos y acciones – sobre el mundo del arte, la cultura política, cine y pop.
¿Crees que aún falta mucho para conseguir la igualdad en el cine y el arte o por el contrario creeis que ha mejorado la situación de las mujeres?
La industria del cine está muy atrasada en lo que respecta a la diversidad. Apenas ha mejorado en la última década. En 2013, sólo nueve por ciento de las películas fueron dirigidas por mujeres.
¿Tienes cualquier exposicion preparado para el año 2015? y¿dónde?
Nuestra retrospectiva, "Guerrilla Girls 1985-2015" se va a exponer en Matadero Madrid el 30 de enero de 2015.
Vamos a celebrar nuestro cumpleaños número 30 en mayo de 2015 – todavía estamos trabajando en los detalles, pero habra un pastel, una exposición, champán y street stickering. Ademas vamos viajar a un montón de lugares, incluyendo Viena, California y esperamos que la India.
